Tighter Security In Place For Energy Companies

Energy companies such as Triple Diamond Energy Corp. generate the oil and gas that help keep the business and consumer sectors moving each day.  Without assurances that oil and natural gas supplies will keep flowing day after day, the price of these fuels would spike as consumers and investors alike make panicked decisions on how much fuel needed to be stockpiled in the face of an inevitable interruption in availability.  The resulting chaos would have negative effects on our economy for years to come.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve gives the country some measure of protection against such unexpected interruptions of oil supplies, but the relief it brings is only temporary and is limited in scope.  It can help protect the economy against a short term interruption, but it cannot protect against a larger danger – an attack on our energy supplies themselves.  If direct action were to be taken against the country’s facilities that receive, refine, package and distribute fuel products, all the crude oil in the Reserve would become effectively useless to a country with an immediate need for energy.

Early Warning Systems Could Save Our Fuel Supplies

As a result of the terrorist attacks in New York, the United States Government has determined that our energy production facilities could present a tempting target for future invasions.  Knowing that a well-coordinated set of successful attacks against refineries, distribution centers, and oil and gas extraction companies such as Triple Diamond Energy Corporation, could cripple our energy distribution pipeline and throw the country into turmoil, a significant effort to strengthen security protocols has taken place.

One of these efforts is a general set of security guidelines published by the American Petroleum Industry.  These guidelines offer facility overseers the education and tools to use a high-tech early-warning system that can speed the distribution of sensitive security information when it’s needed most.  In the event that suspect behavior is observed, or if a threat is made to a facility itself, that data can be instantly transmitted to the Department of Homeland Security as well as hundreds of other energy facilities across the nation.

Another strategy currently being used is to send a team of government inspectors to each energy facility with the express purpose of “thinking like the enemy,” looking for security vulnerabilities in both the facility and the security processes it uses.  By identifying particular points of weakness ahead of time, these prime targets for attack can remain one step ahead of the game and strengthen their defenses against the dark purposes of terrorism.

But this is only the beginning.  As technology becomes more sophisticated, and as new and innovative counter-terrorism strategies are developed, additional programs will be put into place to make our energy distribution network safer and more secure.  Energy companies such as Triple Diamond Energy Corp. will continue to work with government agencies in whatever ways necessary to ensure that the United States has a trusted, steady supply of the energy products that it needs.
